They are determined by there win-loss records

There are two conferences the East %26amp; West.

Each with 15 teams. After the regular season the top 8 teams from each conference with the best win-loss records makes the playoffs

The other 7 teams from each conference will be eliminated and is not part of the playoffs.

the top 8 teams from the east and the west( so 16 total) get spots meaning the 8 people with the highest win-loss records get in then from there it gets weird
It goes by win and loss. 8 teams from the west and 8 teams from the east make it. If some teams have the same record, they judge them by their win percentage and whoever has the higher percentage moves on.
The top 8 teams from each conference enters the playoffs.

"The top four seeds will be the three division winners plus the team with the next best record. Those four will be ordered by record (and tiebreakers if needed), so it's possible that two teams in the same division could hold the top two spots, with the other two division winners at Nos. 3 and 4.

Seeds 5 through 8 are the next four teams according to record (and tiebreakers if needed). "

here's the link that explains the changes about the playoff seedings

they have to play good in the regular season

(which is 82 games) and make sure they are in the top 8 of their conference standings when the regular season ended....
In the NBA, there are two conferences. The East and the West. The teams with the top 8 records in Each conference are qualified for a playoff berth. When the playoffs begin, the #1 team in each conference faces the #8 team, the #2 team vs. #7 team, #3 vs #6, and 4 vs. 5.
