In China and Japan there are already professional basketball leagues, so surely they have venues. Japan also hosted the FIBA Tournament a couple years ago. There are several leagues in Europe, so it shouldn't be difficult to find a venue there either. If they were to expand there, it would be nice to see 6-10 teams or so.

If you are talking about the 7'6 - 7'7 center from China who just learned how to play basketbal in the past couple of years and is now playing in a development league, I hear it is going to be the Utah Jazz.
Frankly, I'm not sure Ming Ming will go to the NBA anytime soon, and if he does, I don't really think he'll make much impact. He's soooo slow and awkward because of his medical condition (brain chip pushed against his petuitary gland which caused his giganticism. They fixed it, but now he has a loose piece of bone in there and that's not good. Or something like that.)

Most of the time they pick they're alternate jerseys (for example Suns orange, or Pistons red), which are usually a dark color, forcing the away team to wear white.

Each with 15 teams. After the regular season the top 8 teams from each conference with the best win-loss records makes the playoffs

Well they can't all have teams.. rapid expansion will leave some clubs bankrupt.
Baltimore would support a team the best out of the cities you have listed. San Diego, much like Miami has too many things to do, so even though there's plenty of people, they wouldn't support the NBA that well. When Miami was bad, nobody went neither.

Las Vegas will never happen because of legal gambling in that city.
I would like to say San Diego but southern California already has 2 teams, the Lakers and the Clippers so i think they have their share of teams already. Oklahoma City has an adopted team in the Hornets so they would also go at the bottom of my list. I like to see teams spread out over the country so i think that Baltimore might be just a little too close to the Washington Wizards in D.C. So after narrowing these down a bit, i think that out of your list of locations i would like to see a team either in Kansas City, St. Louis or Las Vegas. I think Las Vegas would be pretty cool. Can you imagine the amount of money getting put on them at the sports books if they had a home team?!?!?
The way that Oklahoma CIty took in the Hornets, and sold out their arena for a team that wasn't really theirs was nice. They should get 1st shot for their own team. Las Vegas should be 2nd, but there will always be the gambling issues. I would like Tampa Bay to get some consideration, as well as St. Louis and San Diego.
I think Hawaii desperately needs an NBA team and if Toronto can do it so can a city in Hawaii.
You cant just go adding tons to teams to any city with an arena. You will dilute the talent just like the NHL did.

- Louisville loves basketball but has no NBA level arena.

- San Diego probably also has no NBA level arena. How would the Lakers and Clippers feel. Might get too crowded down there.

- Baltimore is probably too close to Washington.

- OK City showed they will support a team when the Hornets were there. Need to upgrade the arena to get a team of their own.

- KC and St Louis both have arenas and there are no teams in the middle of the country. One of them might be a good choice.

- Vegas needs a NBA level arena.
Sonic's owner will head for the Midwest. OKC first and KC.
I think either St. Louis or Las Vegas would be top consideration if Sonics decide to move out of pacific northwest...which I doubt would happen....St. Louis is one of great sports town and everybody loves the Vegas baby. lol

Word on the street is that the Sonics are most likely headed to OK City if they end up leaving Seattle. They're going to have a solid young team next year and the years to come, so maybe that'll be enough to bring the fans back and keep them there.

Frankly, they will not move all the way east as they are a Western team. Unless re-alignment occurs, travel expenses would be a true burden for a Western conference team. New Orleans, Minnesota and Memphis all have large travel expenses owners hate paying. However, there is a serious untapped market in the southern part of the Midwest. I believe Oklahoma City, St. Louis, Kansas City.

Due to ownerships wanting large corporations to support major league teams, St. Louis is probably the most feasible option. If they stay out west, look for them to end up in Las Vegas.

My question is simple. I believe coaches have a lot to do with a teams peformance. I am a Rockets fan and for the life of me cant believe they won 22 in a row with there givin talent. I cant believe the Mavs cant win a game to save there life without Dirk when they have Kidd, Howard, and before the trade had plenty of really good players and lots of good role players. On paper a Dirkless Mavs team should kill a Yoaless Rockets team, but on the court the Rockets wipe the floor with them, so does everyone else by the way. So what are the top teams that dont quite have all the talent, IE. Houston and Philadelphia to get you started.

10. Celtics- sound strange? Everyone knew they would be good, but I don't know if many people expected them to DOMINATE the regular season, sweep the season series with Detroit, and win 65+ games.

9. Magic- we thought they'd be good too, but 50 wins and the 3 seed in the East (which would only give them the 8 seed in the West)? I don't think we expected so much so soon.

8. Rockets- they'd make my underachieving list because they were supposed to be title contenders, but The Streak (with them winning games without T-Mac in the beginning and without Yao at the end) gets them on this list also.

7. Bobcats- looked like a Playoff team through the 1st 30 games, but fell back to Earth. They have still done well considering they played Boston to the last possession at least twice (I think they won one of them?) and they have done this well without 2 recent high draftees (Sean May and Adam Morrison).

6. Pacers- can anyone name the Pacers' starting 5? Jermaine O'Neal has missed so many games, Tinsley has been out and had offcourt issues. Marquis Daniels has had issues as well. Mike Dunleavy, Jr. has been their best player, and they are 2 games back of the 8 seed (I know it's the East, but still). Enough said.

5. Hawks- didn't think they'd make the Playoffs this season. I thought they'd compete for last place and then need at least one more season to get there.

4. Wizards- they have been missing one or two of their 3 best players for almost every game this season, but they are still kicking. If they can get everyone healthy, they will be a tough out for one of the top 4 seeds.

3. 76ers- they weren't supposed to make the Playoffs. They were supposed to have a fire sale and get rid of Andre Miller. They're probably the lowest seed that puts fear in any of the top seeds hearts. They win by playing the right way. They're best player is a hard worker.

2. Blazers- the highest ranked non-Playoff team to make my list. Oden doesn't play a single game this season, and they're still playing .500 ball? Roy missed significant time as well. They seemed to be a lock for the Playoffs before the All-Star break, but they have a solid foundation for next season.

1. Hornets- my preseason expectations for them: Playoffs? Yes. #1 seed in the West and potential MVP CP3? No chance. They also got Peja to shake off his grave clothes. These kids will be scary for years to come.

Suns because many of their key players are still young(besides nash). Amare just needs some time to develop into a defensive presence. They basically could have beat the spurs, but only lost cause of dirty officiating(and it was dirty). The mavs are like a weak mix of the spurs and suns and personally i'm not sold on them.

When the Mav's made the '05-'06 finals, Tim Duncan blamed himself, even though he was hurt. You never hear about the Spurs whining, that they where robbed or cheated. They make no excuses. Also no one expects them to win the finals. They are talent, not hype. They are skill not flash.

I like the Sun's but they are not my Spurs.

I would tell you but I do think it's too early, there are too many free agents to be signed, trades that can go down (AI) I think that players haven't stopped moving yet and rookies need a chance to show what they can do. They are on of the most inconsistent teams in the league, have not made it to the second round in who knows how long. This is a tough question. Let's start with the teams that won't be going too far. First off the Suns. Yes they have the potential, but too much turmoil. Right now anyway. If they could find a possible solution to Marion right now, then now we're talking. The Jazz, won't be able to compete with any of the top teams of the Western Conference. They don't have anyone stable at the guard position. Celtics are looking good. Very good adds with Ray Allen, and KG. They also aquired a decent bench. James Posey, Scott Pollard. There draft picks will get good playing time with Kendrick Perkins as the starting center? That won't last long. Big Baby will be in there before you know it. The Pistons are also struggling. Webber isn't big enough to play center, Billups is Billups, he'll work well with anyone. I definitely think they'll be up there again, but won't contend. The Mavericks are looking good at # 2 in the Western Conference. But sadly, it's the Spurs again. Way too dominant. As for the Cavs and the Heat, well they're injury prone, and will be kicked out the first round of the playoffs. Oh yeah and the Rockets. Yeah, no. They're not going anywhere.

I would say that the Mavs, Suns, and Spurs are the best teams in the NBA. The Celtics could be one of the best, but the Big Three of Pierce, Allen and Garnett have to learn how to share the basketball. I think the Nuggets are an up and coming team that could be one of the elite teams, with Iverson and Melo. But they have to play better defense. Defense wins championships in the NBA. Thats why Detriot and San Antonio has been so sucessful.
It's not just about talent, it's about coaching too.

Remember when everybody doubted Miami and then Riley took over and they won a championship? Do you remember when Dallas was always on the verge and then the hired Avery Johnson and went to the finals. Do you remember when Detroit made it tho the finals and haven't been back since they hired Flip Sanders? Coaching is huge in this game. The philosophy of basketball is just as important as talent. you can have all the talent in the world and you will go nowhere unless you have a plan of execution. Rick Adelman is an exceptional coach, and with 2 domination players like Yao and T-Mac, they already have the talent. Everybody is talking about Wells now too. Bonzi (whom I grew up with in Muncie, Indiana) excelled under Adelman in Sacremento and almost took down the Spurs single handedly. If Frances is anywhere near his old Houston form, they can beat anybody in the leauge! They also have the Argetinien PF Scola, who won MVP at the "Tournament of the Americas" this summer, James, Head, Battier, Novak (a 6'9" 3pt specialist), Mutombo and whatever they can trade for (because they are getting rid of Rafer "Skip-to-my-lou" Alston). Come on, this team is good and with Adelman, they are elite!
I think the Celtics, Mavs, Suns, Spurs, Pistons, Cavs, Warriors are good.

Celtics because they got the trio: KG, Allen, Pierce

Mavs because they have the MVP and a strong cast

Suns- play very uptempo, hard to catch up with

Spurs- lock down defense and pretty good offense

David, what the hell are you talking about? There's no place where the players (offense or defense) are not allowed. The 4-foot arc underneath the basket is not off-limits to the defense, merely that in that arc, no offensive fouls (charging) may be called. It forces the big D-men -- like centers, to actually move their feet and not just be stationary under the basket. Same principle as the 3-second rule.

And, if a team decides to build around Oden they're going to need some incredible outside shooters. He's a great player but unless he has help outside, the D in the NBA is just going to bunch down low. Oden can't power through these guys like Shaq does nor does he have the quickness to make other players miss. At least, not yet.

In my opinion, it's just right. The 2 most impt roles in a team are the roles of the Center and the Point Guard.
the NBA stopped following the rules of basketball quite a while ago , so there would be more scoring which increases the fan base.

now the even have that little circle on the base line under the basket where defense is not allowed. this has made the oafs like shaq, who are totally ineffective out side 5 feet without knocking someone down or walking, phony basketball stars.

therefore the NBA doesn't play basketball
I think the teams are more versitile some build around forwards, some build around gaurds, and some build around centers. but there are alot of teams that are built around the center like dallas, spurs, orlando, houston, memphis, toronto, etc.

They decide it using the season series between the two teams. Like in 2004, New Jersey and Cleveland had the same record but New Jersey was the one that got into the playoffs because they won their games against Cleveland that year.

i don't think so. i watch the nba mostly, and there are so many bad teams. if there were a few less teams then there would be a lot less average players in the league. also, the stars of the bad teams would be put on one team. for example, if they got rid of the mediocre minnesota timberwolves, garnet could move to atlanta (or wherever) and make that franchise more competitive. i assume this could work in all team sports.

From Indy I take it. They wont put an expansion team here due to us having 4 within driving distance, 2 in chicago, DETROIT, and the Reds. The Reds have a large following here due to them and the Indpls Indians being affiliated, the reds use to play a game here every year against the Indians. Now its the Pirates we are affiliated with oh how time changes. As long as the Colts keep winning and the Pacers can return to winning I cant see a major league team here in the city, the Indians do ok in attendance but where are you going to put a new ball park or are you wanting to expand Victory Field. I for one am fine with what we have here in Indy.

Philadelphia - had maybe the hardest working player in the game in Iverson and never did anything to make the team a contender around him. (even when they made the finals they had no chance against the lakers)

I don't like...

1.) The Suns- they is almost too much going on, and when you see a game live it is very hard to keep track.

2.) The Spurs- they are almost the excact opposite in the western confrence, and they are getting old.

3.) The Heat- I don't its fair that the Mavs had to go through Memphis, Spurs, Suns, and then face the Heat. The Heat only had a REAL problem with Chicago, and maybe Detriot, the eastern confrence is TOO easy in the playoffs, and they can almost coast through, where in the western confrence every time can be a battle (see mavs, gs right now)

4.) The Lakers- Kobe doesn't look like the next Jordan, he looks like a baby who can't handle anyone else being a star too.

5.) Detroit- They again can rule the east, without ever having to actually go against a good team. Chicago is decent, but not until next year will they be elite. And why does spothead (Rasheed Wallace) have to act like he is the king of that town, when we all know it is Chauncy's, and RIP's

1. Denver - As if I didn't hate Carmelo Anthony enough before that fateful Nuggets-Knicks game...

2. L.A. Lakers - They used to be #1 (because of Kobe and Kwame), but something happened in a Knicks game (see above).

3. Cleveland - It's happening slowly, but I'm showing LeBron less hate with every passing day. I dare say that, when I stop hating LeBron altogether, I'll have no hate for the rest of the team.

4. Utah - The only thing keeping them out of the top 3 is the hope I have that this past season, playoffs included, was just a fluke, and that Jerry Sloan doesn't mismanage a player like AK-47 in the future just because Carlos Boozer was finally healthy for a full season in a Jazz uniform. If Sloan treats AK next season like he's done this season, it's entirely possible that Utah could be #1 on my most-hated list.

5. Golden State - I don't really have any hate for the 26 teams not listed above, and while I really like Don Nelson's coaching style, Stephen Jackson is on their roster. Before the trade with Indiana, the Pacers would've had this spot because of Jackson.

I dislike these teams because they have no heart! The players play for the money and not for the title. The management for these teams are poor and have not producing anything in years. There always needs to be balance in the league with spreading around the great players and these teams need one bad. These three teams are a guaranteed win for any team playing against them. They need to take a hard look at their financers and organization before there will be any improvements. Bad coaching and a lack of All-Star type players is what these teams have.

Whenever you have teams that make it not worth watching your favorite team play, there is something wrong room for changes and improvement.

no, they cannot make a trade until the offseason, once the playoffs are over. It is only then teams can start trading players to other teams. The only time NBA trades do not take place is between the trade deadline and the end of the regular season/playoffs.

I would say Pistons, Celtics and Spurs are 3 of the deepest teams in this league.

Pistons 2nd unit in Stuckey/Maxiell/Johnson/Hayes/Afflalo is good enough to beat at least 2/3 of lottery-bound teams as will if they are all on the floor, and that unit is pretty young.

We know Celtics has Big 3 and a couple of veterans in Cassell and Brown, but Posey is the 1st-tier defender in this league, House is one of the best per-minute scorers, plus promising young guys like Davis/Powe/T Allen/Ronjo/Perkins. They are just making themselves a deeper team day after day.

Spurs is too obvious - a Seniors club but they are just good enough to beat you. When Stoudamire is 3 years early to be the 10th/11th man, the team he plays is truly deep.

Thats the best bench for a long time..

Farmar- He got a good looking 3point shot, he always does it at the buzzer. And he is real quick and can dish. a few years from now i think he can be the starter..

Vujacic - Improved from last season and can only get better from now. he's a deadly 3point shooter..

Ariza - He'll be a starter at some point (maybe in 2009/10). If he plays next season i think he'll be 6th man of the year. He's really that good.

Turiaf - Energy man. A must-have teammate. The ultimate hustler. I love this guy!! He can give you 8rebounds a game with a few blocks. He's also shooting well lately, he can only get better..

Radmanovic - Another accurate shooter, he's been hittin big 3's this season especially at dallas where he drained 3 3's that killed the mav's. i think he'll have much better games coming of the bench next season..
Lakers.. they're young and energetic.... but Spurs also has a good bench

Farmar can dish out some good assists and he does have a decent shot; Vujacic is liek Laker's best 3-point shooter but he makes some dumb mistakes, Ronny is like the Laker's energy man.... he is the hustle man.... and Radmonovic is like a mini-Dirk.. a PF who has a decent 3-point shot

Orlando might be the surprise in the East, they were the first team to beat Boston this year and they're only getting better. Maybe a minor trade might have a major impact.

In the west you're basically right, there it might come down to which teams stay healthy. If the big 4 loose one player, eg ginobili, odom,... NO, Utah, Denver could be a first round surprise, but no GSW story this year I think!

Suns got rid of bad chemistry, brought in a 4 time champion, who will get healthy just like grant hill was able to do. Laker's have Kobe's leaderships and 2 very talented 7 footers. Was talking with some friends about this, and we thought it would be a good idea if the NBA adopted the policy that European Football (Soccer) has, rather then make players attendcollegeto play (Ultimately most of them only want to play professional anyway). Why not allow NBA franchises to have youth academy teams, which will allow them to sign young basketballers to academy deals until they are ready to make a full pro debut. Therefore the top basketballers can focus on their athletics in professional setups based on improving there games rather then them being forced to gocollegeand attain a certain academic achievement to b eligible to play. Most players declare for the Draft in their early years of eligibility anyway, so ultimately they aren't going tocollegefor a degree....

probably the Spurs, they definitely play team ball, win championships and I can't picture any of their core players playing elsewhere.

if you mean top 5 of all time, they're certainly in the discussion. only a few teams have been considered dynasties. the spurs are on the lower end of that but are talked about in that respect. they hurt their reputation a little bit in their past championship but i guess a team that plays dirty is still playing dirty together.

I can agree with the above and say Spurs, but another team who plays team ball is the Houston Rockets. All five of their lineup plays team ball.As far as succesful I can say they will predict they will make it deep into the playoffs.

the raptors, we are known as playing team basketball, and usually per possesion we get 6-8 touches before someone takes the shot. also 25-30 assists a game. Bosh is one of the best team players who really shares the ball regardless if he even gets 10 points a game. Any NBA player that comes to our team really fits in the style of play, because we're always looking for the open guy and noone cares if they get 10 shots a game or 1 shot. Bosh loves the fact that he has 2 top quality point guards (starter TJ Ford who gets 8 dimes a game, and our bench point guard Jose Calderon who gets 6 off the bench!!). Every game, there will be a different points leader, whether it be the first man on the roster or the 6th man. Just watch a game and you'll hear the announcer's saying "that's unselfish basketball" and how we kick the ball in and then swing it around the perimeter and back in untill we get a great look.

It is not required, but I think it is cool to choose from other team colors. Bulls now have the black uniform option, the Nets have red, Cleveland has orange. Yeah I think it's good.
